Processing Presuppositions. Are Implicative Verbs Soft Triggers?

This paper investigates the question whether implicative verbs should be considered as soft presupposition triggers, i.e., triggers activating optional context repairs. I present results of an experiment in which test subjects were asked to read short dialogues containing either or conversational implicatures and, next, answer questions regarding information communicated on level implicatures, respectively. The within-subject ANOVA show that presuppositions activated by use are significantly less accessible and illicit longer response times than hard suggesting they can classified triggers. obtained also different heterogenous regards accessibility information.
